FAQS

Team Composition:
A team comprises of 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 steersperson and up to 4 alternates.
Please note: A steersperson will be provided for the following teams: GWN Orlando Earth Dragons, Walt Disney World® Cast Members.
Event Day Steerspersons will be provided for those teams who require one.  Please contact GWN at info@gwndragonboat.com if you require one.

Team Rosters:
Team rosters shall consist of one team captain and a maximum of 25 crew members (including drummer and steerperson) for the purposes of races. 

Registered Team members:
A registered team member is any person who is listed on the team roster that has completed the online waiver.

Multiple Team Participation:
Team members are not permitted to register or race for more than one mixed team. However, female paddlers on a mixed team are allowed to register and race on a women's team. Male paddlers on a mixed team are allowed to register and race on an open team.

Race Class Information:

What is a Racing Class?
Your racing class defines the gender and age makeup of your crew. In any given event your crew will be racing against other crews who meet the same racing class eligibility requirements for that event. Generally speaking, festival events define racing classes using the gender mix of the crews only and do not concern themselves with the age of the individual competitors. For regional and national level DBC sanctioned competitions, racing classes are more specifically defined by both the gender mix of the crew and the age of the competitors.

Overriding Rules:
No paddler can participate as a paddler on more than one crew in the same racing class. Steerspeople and drummers can be members of other crews, including a paddler on another crew, within the same racing class or on a crew participating in another racing class.
A Women's or Men's Crew can be comprised of members of a combination of Mixed Crews.

Mixed Racing Class
The Mixed Racing Class is comprised of crews that meet the following requirements: 

  • At least 8 paddlers must be female

Men's Race Class
The Men's Racing Class is comprised of crews that meet the following requirements:

  • All paddlers, the drummer and steersperson must be male

Women's Race Class
The Women's Racing Class is comprised of crews that meet the following requirements:

  • For this regatta, all paddlers and the drummer must be female however the steersperson may be either female or male

Women's / Mixed Race Class
The Women's / Mixed Racing Class provides all-female crews the opportunity to race in both the Women's and Mixed Race Classes. It is comprised of crews that meet the following requirements:

  • For this regatta, all paddlers and the drummer must be female however the steersperson may be either female or male
