Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

The 2013 GWN Dragon Boat Challenge Presented by CIBC will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1986 as the first volunteer-led organization in the country devoted exclusively to breast cancer research, health promotion and advocacy.

 
One in nine Canadian women is expected to develop breast cancer during her lifetime and 1 in 29 will die from the disease. Since it's beginning, the Foundation’s Ontario Region has awarded over $84 million in funding for nearly 600 grants, supporting research projects, fellowships and community health initiatives.
 
Funds raised through the GWN Dragon Boat Challenge Presented by CIBC will go towards breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

GWN Dragon Boat Challenge Presented by CIBC Charity of Choice

In 1994, GWN took the challenge of developing the GWN Dragon Boat Challenge Presented by CIBC into an annual large scale fundraising event for Canadian charities. The Challenge continues to grow both in scope and funds raised. To date, it has raised over $1,000,000 for a wide variety of Canadian charities including Children's Wish Foundation, Canadian Living Foundation, Breakfast for Learning, Canadian Spinal Research Organization, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Variety Club, the Children's Charity and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

In 2011, the festival teamed up the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, the charity that started it all, to raise $40,000 for children with life-threatening illnesses. Thanks to paddlers, teams, and GWN Staff, nearly $41,000 was raised to support the charity's work in wish granting.
